... and welcome to 'Day Twelve' of "Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts on Roku" where I aim to bring you another batch of Hallowe'en / Horror-related audio series from the plethora of petrifying podcasts that have been released in recent years - any of which can be streamed to your TV via the magic of Roku media players - so, let's dim down those lights... for more audio frights! :-O ;-) :-D


If you read my special hallowe'en blogathon preview - FOUND HERE - that I published twelve days ago, then you'll know I plan to post one Hallowe'en / Horror related article every day, throughout the month of October, featuring an assortment of links to various podcasts beginning with the same letter of the alphabet each and every day. For the sake of simplicity, I decided to begin this series of blog posts with the letter 'A' on 'Day One', followed by letter 'B' on 'Day Two', letter 'C' on 'Day Three', and so on and so forth, right the way through to letter 'Z' on 'Day Twenty-Six'. Obviously that will still leave five more days worth of posts, by the time we reach the end of the alphabet, so I'll put my thinking cap on (between now & then) to (hopefully) come up with some extra audio "treats" for you by then. With thirty-one posts of the most spook-tacular sounding series I can find, between now and the end of the month, you'll have lots of great choice for your listening pleasure as we count the days to Hallowe'en, as well as plenty of spine-tingling thrills & chills 'twixt now and All Hallows' Eve on October 31st! :-D


For my twelfth post in this series I'm going to share links to a much larger amount of audio "treats" than there were yesterday, but (again) they will all be from the general spectrum of horror and the paranormal, and the unifying "trick" (sic) is that the title for each of these podcast series begins with the letter 'L' - although some artistic licence has been taken to ignore "The", when used at the start of the title, so as to avoid having to post too many links for letter 'T' on 'Day Twenty' of this month-long blogathon. So, without further ado, here are my suggestions for Hallowe'en / Horror-related podcast series... the titles for which all begin with the letter 'L' of the (horror) alphabet:-






Lake Clarity: is a serialised horror story podcast, produced by Midnight Disease Productions, in which five teens head up to 'Camp Clarity' to celebrate their last summer together, but little do they know they're about to stumble on the dark secrets that surround the lake! :-O ;-) :-D

As was the case with my 'Roku UK Channel Store - Weekly RoundUp #343' post from last week, owing to my having to publish an extra post today, by way of fulfilling my commitment to this year's "Countdown To Halloween" month-long blogathon, I'm going to have to delay my coverage of all the Roku-specific and/or Roku-related news from the past seven days until I can find the time to catch-up on what's "missing" from this first edition of the current 'Weekly RoundUp' post. As I've done in the past, under such circumstances, I have (at least) managed to provide you with a complete list of all the latest new additions to the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store from the past week. With any luck I'll be able to compile these introductory paragraphs of news bit-by-bit, over the course of the next few days, so if you check this post again later in the week, you should find it's been updated! ;-) :-D


Anyway, with no Roku-related news to share with you at this time, I'm (instead) going to focus on the equally important matter of bringing you details for all the latest new Roku channels (apps) which were released during the seven days since my last 'Weekly RoundUp' post was published and, with a decent crop of eighty-six new channels to browse, that should be more than enough to keep you occupied while I assemble the odd snippets of Roku-related news I found for you in the last week! :-)


Before I get into the current list of channels, however, I would just like to point-out that the ongoing issue of "missing" reviews from the 'Roku Guide' website appears to have worsened (yet again) since my previous article for this blog. Over the last forty-one weeks, my 'Weekly RoundUp' posts have seen a total of 4,147 new channels added. Meanwhile, the number of 'Roku Guide' reviews being published during that time has continued to fall short of the mark. Quite how they managed to only produce 11 reviews, with just six from the current week; and two more from last week, along with; three US-only channels, when there were upwards of 86+ new Roku channels released in the past seven days, is beyond me! Unfortunately, this can't be seen as being an exception to the rule... because, digging through their archives, it soon becomes clear this has been happening all too frequently. Looking at all of the articles they've published since the start of the year, there has been a total of only 1,045 new reviews added to their website. So, with a minimum of eighty more "missing" reviews from the past week, they remain more than seventy percent short of where they should be and, if this continues, there could be hundreds (if not thousands) more Roku channels with no corresponding independent review for me to provide a link from each of the 'Weekly RoundUp' posts on my blog. I hope this shortfall is addressed soon because, as mentioned 37 weeks ago, the current situation isn't good for anyone connected to Roku: be they end-users, developers, bloggers like myself, or even Roku - whose platform is the source 'Roku Guide' use to compile their reviews! :-O


Still, back to the list... which, as always, will help you to identify the very latest apps that have been added to Roku devices in the UK. Other websites offering Roku channel listings will base their contents on the Roku USA Channel Store, which means they also include apps that are unavailable to UK Roku users. So, like I've said before... if you really want to know what's available channel-wise, for owners of Roku devices in the UK, you need to be reading this blog each and every week! ;-) :-)

PLEASE NOTE:- That, in contrast to the title of "Workour Time" which is displayed in capital letters across the middle of the above channel icon (aka 'HD Poster' image) for this Roku app, the actual name that has been assigned to it in the Roku Channel Store is "It's Workout Time!" so (presumably?) there has been an error made by the developer when illustrating the title for the purposes of the icon. Given how they have released multiple apps with (very) similar-looking 'HD Poster' images, and not even bothered to assign a Roku Channel Store category (i.e. genre) for more than half of them, with others (e.g. their new 'Crazy World Food' channel) being filed under a category which isn't in keeping with their content - unless someone can explain why 'Crazy World Food' is in the "Games" category - theirs would appear to be a rather slap-dash approach to Roku channel development. Hopefully this is something they can address in due course... both with any future apps, and by way of updating their current batch of new Roku channel releases, because (if not) it could easily backfire on them. I mean, if they're that careless with the basics (i.e. the naming, plus the associated 'HD Poster' image, and the channel store category assigned to their apps) there is little to suggest that the content therein would be any better. There's a reason why so much stock is put in "first impressions" and, in terms of the apps from the Roku Channel Store, the first impression you (as an end user) get of a channel is the 'HD Poster' image displayed for that Roku app. Needless to say, I "passed" on the opportunity to install this particular channel and, until such a time as they take steps to improve their approach to Roku channel development, I very much doubt that I'll be adding anything else by this developer! :-/

PLEASE NOTE:- That, aside from failing to include the exclamation mark on the Roku channel icon (aka 'HD Poster' image) which is clearly present in the name assigned to this app in the Roku Channel Store (as well as the URL-ending associated with it on the Roku website), the developer has decided not to attach a channel store category to this (and other) app(s) which they submitted to Roku prior to their inclusion among the selection of streaming channels available for install. Given their seemingly slap-dash approach (as mentioned in respect of the "It's Workout Time!" channel, outlined above) to Roku channel development, and their tendency to assign somewhat unorthodox categories to the apps they release, I would not like to speculate as to which genre (i.e. category) of the Roku Channel Store this is likely to end-up in... if they ever do decide to give it a "permanent" home on the Roku platform but, since they appear to favour the "Games" category whenever they do make the effort, that would certainly be one possible outcome. Again, I'd suggest avoiding this until they've sorted their act out!

PLEASE NOTE:- That this latest 'Bar Room Beauties' channel should not be confused with an earlier app release, going by the name of 'Bar Room Babes' in the channel store, that was featured as part of my 'Roku UK Channel Store - Weekly RoundUp #339' post at the beginning of last month. The icon (aka 'HD Poster' image) used for each of the apps is virtually identical, with only the (slightly) altered wording of the title displayed across both icon(s) to give an indication that there is any difference between them. Since they each require payment of a £1.49 per month subscription fee, I can't say if it's the same content across the two… but, given the fact that 'New Age Studios' are also credited as the developer for both versions, there are enough similarities for me to believe it's another case of channel-cloning with a view to "spamming" the Roku Channel Store with multiple copies of the same app. Let's hope Roku put a stop to this sort of behaviour... and sooner, rather than later! :-/ :-|

PLEASE NOTE:- That, although this new 'FLYX' channel is FREE-TO-ADD to your Roku device(s) and there's no mention that it "May require additional fees" in the description from the Roku Channel Store, the fact they describe it as "a leading premium streaming service", without specifically stating that it's free to the end-user, suggests to me that it could require some form of payment to be made in order to view part (or all) of the content therein. Should that prove to be the case, and extra charges are indeed levied, I would expect the developer to update their listing in the channel store so as to include an appropriate warning about the potential for Pay-Per-View (PPV) fees! :-( :-|

Mabel: is a horror, folklore, weird-fiction podcast regarding a series of phone messages sent between the main characters. It was created and produced by Becca De La Rose and Mabel Martin. It centres around a home health carer for a secretive old woman who tries to get in contact with her client's estranged granddaughter. Featuring: ghosts, family secrets, strange houses, even stranger occurrences, as well as memories, and missed connections, The Past, and leave a lingering sense of unease! :-O

Oh No, Ross and Carrie: is a skeptical podcast, about Spiritualism and the Paranormal, produced in Los Angeles and distributed by the 'Maximum Fun' network. Hosts, Ross Blocher and Carrie Poppy, personally investigate claims about spirituality, fringe-science, religion, and the paranormal, then discuss their findings on the show. If it has an extraordinary claim attached to it, they will endeavour to check it out. What's interesting is that, rather than simply report on these topics, they actively take-part in them... whether it's joining various religions, undergoing alternative medical treatments, or physically hunting for ghost, goblins, demons, and deities! :-O Every month they share a new investigation, along with occasional bonus interviews and updates. Since starting the show in 2011, they've been ear-candled, fire-cupped, energy-healed, sensory-deprived, exorcised, over-heated, and more. They have also joined Scientology, Mormonism, Raëlism, Eckankar, the Ordo Templi Orientis, and several others. Among their many exciting (if unlikely) adventures, Ross and Carrie have looked for ghosts on the Queen Mary, attempted to predict the future by having their palms read, and even re-visited the past in their subconscious. Palimpsest: is a (mostly) single-voiced audio drama, by Jamieson Ridenhour and Hayley Heninger, about memory, identity, and things that haunt us. It’s a podcast that plays with your mind, weaving a contemplative, psychological literary story (similar to "The Haunting of Hill House", if you know it). Each ten-episode season is a unique and self-contained story, exploring the spaces between horror, fantasy, and psychological realism! :-O They tend to release new episodes bi-weekly on Tuesdays. That said... the show is currently on hiatus, while season three is in production, but (thankfully) the first two seasons are available (and bingeable!) on a number of podcast platforms! ;-) :-D

Rabbits: is an horror-thriller (pseudo-documentary styled) podcast from the Public Radio Alliance. Written and produced by Terry Miles, 'Rabbits' is the story of a woman named Carly Parker whose friend, Yumiko "Miko" Takata, goes missing under very mysterious circumstances. Carly’s search for her friend leads her headfirst into a decades-old alternate reality game known as "Rabbits", or simply "The Game", which she quickly discovers may (or may not) be real. Carly soon begins to suspect that 'Rabbits' is much more than just a game, and comes to the conclusion that the key to understanding 'Rabbits' might also be key to the survival of our species (and the universe) as we know it! :-O ;-) :-D

Hi, everyone !!



As was the case with my 'Roku UK Channel Store - Weekly RoundUp #344' post from last week, owing to my having to publish an extra post today, by way of fulfilling my commitment to this year's "Countdown To Halloween" month-long blogathon, I'm going to have to delay my coverage of all the Roku-specific and/or Roku-related news from the past seven days until I can find the time to catch-up on what's "missing" from this first edition of the current 'Weekly RoundUp' post. As I've done in the past, under such circumstances, I have (at least) managed to provide you with a complete list of all the latest new additions to the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store from the past week. With any luck I'll be able to compile these introductory paragraphs of news bit-by-bit, over the course of the next few days, so if you check this post again later in the week, you should find it's been updated! ;-) :-D


Anyway, with no Roku-related news to share with you at this time, I'm (instead) going to focus on the equally important matter of bringing you details for all the latest new Roku channels (apps) which were released during the seven days since my last 'Weekly RoundUp' post was published and, with a decent crop of sixty-nine new channels to browse, that should be more than enough to keep you occupied while I assemble the odd snippets of Roku-related news I found for you in the last week! :-)


As was the case with my latest post in the month-long blogathon for the 'Countdown To Halloween', published earlier today, I'm having to leave-out details of the channel store categories for each of the new Roku apps listed below... purely and simply because there was not enough time to research it all and still get both posts published on time. Obviously, whenever I get some spare time in the coming week, I'll update this post accordingly with all of the "missing" information. Meanwhile, if you've got to know where any of the channels are located, you can always click on the link below (and to the left of) each channel icon [aka 'HD Poster' image] to be redirected to the appropriate page from the Roku Web Channel Store that contains details of the precise category in which you will find your chosen app. Like I say... this is only a temporary measure, until I can edit this post and add the relevant info to this article, but (at least) it means you will be able to find the details should you ever need to! ;-) :-)


Still, back to the list... which, as always, will help you to identify the very latest apps that have been added to Roku devices in the UK. Other websites offering Roku channel listings will base their contents on the Roku USA Channel Store, which means they also include apps that are unavailable to UK Roku users.
