We've had ANOTHER MAMMOTH CROP OF NEW CHANNEL ADDITIONS to further boost the selection available via the UK Roku Channel Store with FIFTY-TWO NEW ROKU APPS added to the already vast selection of over five thousand six hundred populating the channel store as of this time last week. So, much like that 'Weekly RoundUp #299' post, I must (again) forego my summary of Roku-related news from the past 7 days so I can assemble a complete list of those new apps...


...the idea being that, with no Roku-related news to share, I can (instead) focus on the important task of providing details for all the latest new Roku channels (apps) which were released during the seven days since my last 'Weekly RoundUp' post was published and, with another HUGE SELECTION of 52 new Roku channels, that should (hopefully) be more than enough to keep you occupied while I see what snippets of Roku-related news I can find for you in the coming week! ;-) :-)


Firstly, though, I'd just like to mention (on a not entirely un-related note) that I have now added links to some (though, still not all) of the 'Roku Guide' reviews that were previously "missing" for many of the new Roku channels released in the last few weeks... to wit, thirty-six of these "new" reviews were for Roku channels that were featured in my 'Weekly RoundUp' post from last week so, if you'd like an independent appraisal of those apps, be sure to check-out the relevant post (see link above), which (itself) contains a link to the previous week's post (and so-on, and so-forth), for details of where to find them. Unfortunately, there are more "missing" links to the 'Roku Guide' reviews for every single one of the new apps published during the last seven days... which means, like other posts in recent times, you're going to have to do the research on those by yourselves. As of nine months ago, you can choose to do that either via the built-in channel store on your Roku device(s)... or else, following the links in each post to the relevant channel description(s) from the Roku Web Channel Store. Once the "missing" reviews have been published by 'Roku Guide', I will (as I have done previously) ensure that I add the relevant link(s) to each post. Apologies (as always) for any inconvenience caused by the absence of active links to an independent review for all of the new apps this week but, like I say, it's entirely out of my hands. Hopefully they'll get a chance to catch-up on them sometime in the coming week, otherwise I may have to start doing my own reviews!?! :-O ;-) :-)

PLEASE NOTE:- That, while this 'Darts Nation' channel for Roku devices can be found within the 'New' category (i.e. genre) of the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store, no permanent category / genre had (at the time of writing) been assigned to the channel in the UK. If I somehow succeed in bringing this matter to the attention of the developer / content provider, I'd expect to see this Roku app given a permanent "home" under 'Sports' in the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store within a few weeks of so-doing. In the meantime, if you don't wish to trawl through the 'New' category of the channel store to find it, I suggest you take advantage of the built-in Roku 'Search' feature to locate and install it. Using this method, you probably won't even need to finish typing the word "Darts" before you see the app listed among the 'Search Results' displayed on the right-hand side of your television screen. Failure to assign a permanent channel store category for the UK within the next four weeks (however) would mean that, once it ceases to be part of the 'New' category, it would no longer be listed in the channel store. So, if you think you're likely to want this channel, my advice would be to install it by the start of the second week in January (at the latest) because, if the necessary edits are not made to the Roku channel package (.PKG file) by that time, you will not see it in there afterwards. Needless to say, if/when the channel is edited to include a permanent channel store category for the UK, I'll update this listing with details of whatever genre has been assigned to it. As mentioned above I would expect this to be the 'Sports' genre, but it could (possibly) wind-up in another category.

Hi, everyone !!



If you follow the sport of boxing, and in particular the heavyweight class which has been producing some sizzling showdowns in recent times, then you are no doubt already aware that there is another mouth-watering fight lined-up for Saturday 22nd December 2018 at the O2 Arena in London (UK) between Dillian Whyte and Dereck Chisora... plus an undercard that features the likes of Joshua Buatsi vs. Renold Quinlan (10 Rounds Light-Heavyweight), plus Cristofer Rosales vs. Charlie Edwards (WBC World Flyweight Title), Carlos Takam vs. Senad Gashi (10 Rounds Heavyweight), David Price vs. Tom Little (8 Rounds Heavyweight), as well as a British Featherweight Title contest between Ryan Walsh and Reece Bellotti... all crammed-in to 7 hours of Pay-Per-View (PPV) boxing entertainment (starting from 6pm on Saturday night until approximately 1am in the early hours of Sunday 23rd December 2018) for less than twenty quid - not bad, eh!?!! ;-) :-D







As can be seen from the above screenshot image promoting the fight, this PPV boxing event will be shown via 'Sky Sports Box Office' which, contrary to what many people believe, does not actually mean that you will need a satellite dish and/or a monthly subscription to 'Sky' in order to watch it... because, the reality is that you can book and stream the fight whether you're a 'Sky' customer or not!


Better yet - unlike the Middleweight fight between Gennady Golovkin & Saul Canelo Alvarez, which marked the official launch of 'BT Sport Box Office' earlier this year, and required viewers to watch via either 'Sky TV', 'BT TV', or 'Virgin Media', with no option to view the event via an app or online player... the fact that the fight between Whyte and Chisora is being shown by 'Sky Sports Box Office' instead of 'BT Sport Box Office' means you have the choice to watch via desktop browser on your PC / Mac, as well as using the dedicated mobile app for iOS (Apple) or Android devices and, better yet, for those with Roku and/or NowTV-branded streaming products... you can watch it on your TV!


INSTALLING THE 'SKY SPORTS BOX OFFICE' CHANNEL


Believe it or not, it's been over two years since NOW TV first added a dedicated Roku channel for 'Sky Box Office' to the 'App Store' on their NowTV Box(es) and, although there is still no "public" version (i.e. one listed in the 'Channel Store' on Roku devices) of the app, a "private" channel added to the Roku platform means that Pay-Per-View (PPV) events from 'Sky Sports Box Office' - which include the forthcoming heavyweight bout between Dillian Whyte and Dereck Chisora on Saturday 22nd December 2018 - can also be streamed live on UK Roku devices! :-D








If you happen to have read a similar post which I also published via this blog, around 5 months ago, on "How To Watch Whyte vs. Parker PPV Boxing Live On Roku Players..." via live streaming, then there's a good chance (assuming you watched that fight on your Roku player) that you will already have added the above "private" channel for 'Sky Sports Box Office' to your list of installed apps. In which case, you can skip the next few paragraphs explaining how to install the channel and (instead) jump straight to the section on PURCHASING THE EVENT to buy your virtual ticket for this fight.


If, on the other hand, you have not yet added 'Sky Sports Box Office' to your list of installed apps... then you will need to follow the necessary steps (outlined below) to make it available on your device. As mentioned before, because this is a "private" channel, you will not be able to find it in the Roku UK Channel Store... and will instead need to log-in to your online Roku account where you can make use of the "Add channel with a code" option. For the benefit of anyone who may not have installed any so-called "private" channels to their Roku account before... if you 'Sign in' to the Roku website online, then look under 'Manage account', you will see an active link through which you may "Add channel with a code" and, if you click on that, you will then see a pop-up window where you need only enter the 'Channel access code' and click the blue 'Add channel' button to have the channel added to your Roku account. In this instance enter ACCESS CODE: skysportsboxoffice to install it.


Here's a screenshot of the 'Manage account' section, with the active link to "Add channel with a code" highlighted in blue. To get to it... simply scroll down the 'My Account' page, which is the main page that loads-up after you sign in to your Roku account online, until you see the section shown below:-








If you have never added a "private" channel to your Roku account before (or it has been a while since you last added one) then you should be aware that, following problems in Mexico which led to a ban on the sale and/or import of Roku products in that country (recently overturned), it became necessary for Roku to issue a 'WARNING' message (see screenshot below) every time a "private" channel is added. This is nothing that should concern you and, having already installed & signed-in to this particular channel myself, I can confirm there are no issues with it - so just click "OK" to continue...








Once you have clicked the blue "OK" button, you will then get another pop-up window asking you to confirm that you wish to add the private channel to your account. From there, you need only click on the blue "Yes, add channel" button to have 'Sky Sports Box Office' added to your account. Here is the channel icon (aka 'HD Poster' image) to look for among the list of apps added to your Roku account:-






TIP: If you don't see the above icon for the 'Sky Sports Box Office' private channel at the end of your list of installed apps, go to Settings > System > System update > Check now on your Roku device and, once you see the on-screen message saying "Your Roku player software is up to date", simply press "OK" followed by the "Home" button on your Roku remote, to return to the main menu. From there... press the 'RIGHT' directional arrowhead key once, followed by a single press of the 'UP' directional arrowhead key, via your Roku remote and you should then see the 'Sky Sports Box Office' private channel sitting at the end of your list of installed Roku channels ready to be launched! ;-) :-)


While that's all well and good for those with genuine Roku-branded products in the UK, as opposed to their (much) lesser Roku-Powered™ equivalents from NowTV, the process is far less complicated for those using the bargain basement (where you get what you pay for, with less than 45 apps in total) NowTV-branded devices for which the 'Sky Sports Box Office' app (itself) can be easily installed by simply navigating (from the "Home" screen) to the NOW TV "App Store" then scrolling down to the "News, Weather, Sport" category, wherein (once selected/highlighted) you need only press the "OK" button on the NowTV remote and reveal an option to "Add app" to the list of "My apps" that can be found in the main menu of the "Home" screen on all NOW TV devices. For ease of reference, the app icon used in the "App Store" on NowTV-branded products is the same as the one (shown above) for the Roku private channel icon and, even if you opt to trawl through all forty-three "Most Popular" apps (instead of eleven in the "News, Weather, Sport" genre, per my previous suggestion) it won't be too long before you come across the relevant image and can proceed to install the app as instructed.



PURCHASING THE EVENT


Regardless of whether you plan to watch the fight on a Roku player (via the "private" channel) or on a NowTV-branded device (via the equivalent 'Sky Sports Box Office' app), once you have performed the necessary steps to install the app (or, "channel", as Roku refer to them) on your device, you need to make sure that you go online and purchase the fight (preferably) no later than midnight on Friday 21st December 2018 (i.e. the day before the event) to ensure that everything is in place (and in good time) ahead of the boxing, which begins from 6pm on Saturday 22nd December 2018 with the full undercard. It is important that you visit this webpage to purchase the event for streaming on Roku players, NOW TV devices, or other online platforms (i.e. mobile phones, tablets, desktop browsers, etc.) and not via the other 'Sky Sports Box Office' webpage, which is for those who intend to watch through Sky (satellite) or Virgin Media (cable) and does not include access for online streaming. Here is a screenshot of the relevant webpage from the 'NeuLion' website (as per the link above) so you know what to look for:-








Once you click on the red button, marked "BUY EVENT" in the image above, you'll be redirected to another webpage whereupon you must either register to set-up a new 'Sky Sports Box Office' account (if you don't yet have one) or "SIGN IN" (if you are an existing 'Sky Sports Box Office' customer) to complete your purchase of this Pay-Per-View (PPV) event and enable it to be live-streamed via your chosen platform come the day of the fight. For ease of reference, here is an image of the relevant page from the website (reached by clicking the red "BUY EVENT" button) so you know what to look for:-









From there, if you are a new customer still needing to "Create Your Account" for use with this and any future 'Sky Sports Box Office' events which you may purchase, simply complete all fields in the registration form (clicking in the relevant check boxes, as necessary, to confirm that you are aware of the privacy and cookies notice plus accept all the T&C's) then click the red "SIGN UP" button at the bottom right of the page, and progress to the next step of the registration process, so you can provide "Your Payment Details" prior to the final stage in which you'll need to "Confirm Your Purchase" for the right to stream the entire Whyte vs. Chisora 2 boxing event (incl. the full undercard). Anyone who has previously set up an account with 'Sky Sports Box Office' (i.e. an existing customer who already has a valid email and password with which to "SIGN IN" and complete their purchase) can scroll down the page and click the link (on the bottom left) to continue, as per the screenshot below:-








As you might expect, when clicking the link to "SIGN IN" as indicated above, you will be redirected to another webpage which is specifically for existing customers (who already have an account set-up) to log-in (with the same email and password originally used to sign-up) and confirm their purchase of the Whyte vs. Chisora 2 boxing event (incl. full undercard). Having entered the necessary credentials (i.e. email and password) associated with your account, you need only click on the red "CONTINUE" button underneath to progress to the next step, in which you will verify "Your Payment Details", before you "Confirm Your Purchase" to complete the process! :-)


At this point, regardless of whether you are a new or existing 'Sky Sports Box Office' customer, you will know the cost of this Pay-Per-View (PPV) event having now completed your purchase. For ease of reference, however, I'm also going to include details of the pricing as part of this article:-








The event is priced at £19.95 for UK customers, or €24.95 for Republic of Ireland customers, and will appear on your debit/credit card statement as a payment to "Sky Box Office" - even though it's all booked through the 'NeuLion' website. While it may seem quite expensive, your purchase includes two repeat screenings (of the full duration) shown at 9.00am and 4pm on Sunday 23rd December and up to seven days of "on-demand" access to the full evening's card after the promotion has taken place.


Better yet, thanks to recent changes in EU legislation which mean streaming services like NOW TV, Netflix and Prime Video can be enjoyed by UK citizens across multiple European destinations, those who have purchased this event within the United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland (ROI) can also use their devices to access content from 'Sky Sports Box Office' while "roaming" around much of Europe. As you might expect, in the week leading-up to the festive period, there's been a channel publishing blackout in force (more or less) since my previous 'Weekly RoundUp' post appeared on this blog. As it happens, this does not mean my current post is devoid of new additions to the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store... because there are one dozen "new" apps which (somehow) escaped my notice last week (read on for details about those) and, better yet, they're all FREE-TO-ADD to Roku devices! :-)


Despite there being little of interest in terms of Roku-specific (or even Roku-related) news during the past 7 days, if you've used your Roku device(s) any time between my last 'Weekly RoundUp' post and this one, chances are you'll already be aware of a significant piece of Roku news I have for you...

As you might expect, in a week encompassed by the year-end festive period, a channel publishing blackout has remained in force since my previous 'Weekly RoundUp' post appeared on this blog. As was the case for that article, it does not mean my current post is entirely devoid of new additions to the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store... because there is one new app which (somehow) defied the (temporary) shutdown at Roku HQ and, better yet, is also FREE-TO-ADD to Roku devices! ;-) :-)


Moreover, despite there being little on offer in terms of new Roku channel releases, I did manage to find some Roku-related news and special offers in the time since my last 'Weekly RoundUp' post was published but that's all I have to share from an otherwise uneventful week in terms of Roku matters...


Firstly, though, I'd just like to mention (on a not entirely un-related note) that I have now added links to some (though, still not all) of the 'Roku Guide' reviews that were previously "missing" for many of the new Roku channels released in the last few weeks... to wit, thirty-six of these "new" reviews were for Roku channels that featured in my 'Weekly RoundUp' post from two weeks ago so, if you'd like an independent appraisal of those apps, be sure to check-out the relevant post (see link above), which (itself) contains a link to the previous week's post (and so-on, and so-forth), for details of where to find them. Unfortunately, there are still "missing" links to the 'Roku Guide' reviews for all but one of the new apps published last week, as well as the one new Roku channel released in the past 7 days... which means that, much like other posts in recent times, you'll have to do the research on those yourselves. As of ten months ago, you can choose to do that either via the built-in channel store on your Roku device(s)... or else, following the links in each post to the relevant channel description(s) from the Roku Web Channel Store. Once the "missing" reviews have been published by 'Roku Guide' I will (as I have done previously) ensure that I add the relevant link(s) to each post. Apologies for any inconvenience caused by the absence of active links to an independent review for all those apps but, like I say, it's entirely out of my hands. Hopefully they'll get a chance to catch-up on them sometime in the coming week, otherwise I may have to start doing my own reviews!?! :-O ;-) :-)

So, if streaming Video-on-Demand (VoD) content from the likes of 'StarzPlay', 'MGM', 'Hayu', or the 'Discovery Channel' subscription service is something you'd like to try-out, then these FREE TRIALS from 'Amazon Channels UK' are just the ticket. As with the 'NOW TV' offer (outlined above) this is a LIMITED-TIME DEAL from 'Amazon UK' and ALL OFFERS END ON 31st DECEMBER 2018 !!












If you click on any of the above images, you will be re-directed to the relevant 'Digital Deals' page of the 'Amazon UK' website where you can "Learn more" about each of these free trial offers. While it's possible to sign-up for more than one of the above offers, you will not be able to do so if you have had a similar previous free trial to one (or more) of the services. For example, in my case, there was no option to get a(nother) free trial of the on-demand service from 'Discovery Channel' because I took advantage of a 3-month free trial when it was previously made available earlier in the year. However, since I had never received a free trial to some of the other 'Digital Deals' in this current promotion, I had no trouble signing-up to GET 3-MONTHS FREE with the service(s) I had not tried before. Since 'Hayu' is also available as a standalone Roku channel, as well as a 'Month Pass' from 'NOW TV', it's important to NOTE THAT:- Existing 'Hayu' subscribers cannot simply login to watch 'Hayu' through 'Prime Video' on Roku... and, as with the 'Shudder' horror streaming service, you could be charged twice if you maintained an active subscription through both the original service website as well as an separate subscription to the same service through the equivalent 'Featured Channel' by 'Amazon UK'. My advice would be to cancel your existing subscription, take the 3-month free trial with 'Amazon' and then decide which you would prefer to continue with after the free trial has ended. If you decide that it's easier to leave your subscription in the hands of 'Amazon', you need not take any further action, and they will just debit your account each month (after the trial ends) until you cancel. Those who only wish to get 3-months for free (and not continue with a paid subscription) can cancel at any time before the free promotional period has ended and will not be charged. The same applies for any of the above 'Digital Deals' from 'Amazon UK', although the individual subscription fees (should you decide to continue with your subscription beyond the free trial period) may vary from one service to the next... so be sure to check all of the details before you commit to anything long-term! ;-) :-)


If you're someone who like to collect digital 'box sets' and/or the Blu-Ray / DVD counterparts, then you might like to browse through the various offers in the 'Winter Sale' from 'Sky Store'... because you can always stream any movies and/or TV shows that you purchase via the 'Sky Store' Roku app. There's a lot of significant savings to be had for those who like to 'Buy & Keep' their content in this way, with many items close to half-price... so, if you're looking for ways to spend your Xmas money, there's plenty of choice for those who enjoy films and television series in this 'Sky Store' promotion.


While we're on the subject of 'Sky', it's probably a good time for me to point-out that there is going to be another one of their "Pop-Up" channels coming early in the new year. They typically take the form of a (temporary) re-branding exercise, as opposed to being "new" channels per se, and the latest one is likely to be of interest to those with a 'Sky Sports' pass from 'NOW TV' and a passion for American sports. The reason is: that, from 3rd January to 5th February 2019, their 'Sky Sports Action' channel will become 'Sky Sports USA' with a focus on some of the biggest superstars in U.S sport! :-D






According to a press release from the 'Sky Corporate' media centre, over the course of the month, 'Sky Sports USA' will show 40 live games from across the NFL and NBA so, if you're a fan of American Football and/or Basketball, it looks like you're going to be in for a treat this January! ;-) :-D
As the race continues to Super Bowl LIII, Sky Sports USA will have every game from the NFL play-offs live, as well as the spectacular finale itself from Atlanta. Meanwhile, out on the hardwood, fans awaiting the NBA’s annual London game, will see Washington Wizards face the New York Knicks at The O2 arena. Then, on the 21st January, the league marks Martin Luther King Jr. Day with four games, headlined by the Memphis Grizzlies’ traditional celebration of the civil rights icon’s life.


Among the highlights from 'Sky Sports USA' in January are:

•40 live games from across both sports

•Every game from the NFL play-offs, including Super Bowl LIII from Atlanta

•       NBA London Game 2019 on 17 January between Washington Wizards and New York Knicks

•All four games from the NBA’s celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day

•Episodes of NBA Classic Games, NBA Champions, A Football Life, SFX and America’s Game


Barney Francis, Sky Sports Managing Director, said:

 “Every year, the NFL and NBA London games sell out in a matter of minutes and every year the following for both sports in the UK gets bigger. It’s a big month for both, with the road to the Super Bowl in NFL and the London and Martin Luther King games in the NBA – it’s a perfect time to launch a channel to make sure our customers get the very best of American sports.”


With so much stateside sporting action available, and 'Sky Sports Action' being 1 of 4 'Sky Sports' channels included with the 'Sky Sports Mobile Month Pass' from 'NOW TV', this might be one of those rare occasions when (for some) it might actually be worth the monthly subscription. For me, I'm just happy to have my full (10-channel) 'Sky Sports Month Pass' locked-in at a huge discount for the best part of 2019 - thanks to their 'Black Friday' sale in November - but, however you get to view this huge range of programming, it's definitely worthy of it's own channel... if only for one month! ;-)


In other news, there was more reason to be cheerful over the festive period when this press release by the good people at Ofcom revealed their plans to ensure that all Video-on-Demand (VoD) services are made more accessible for people with hearing or sight impairments. Recommendations were made by 'Ofcom' to the Government, on 20th December 2018, as to how new rules could help guarantee that at least 80% of programming from VoD providers comes with subtitles... much like traditional broadcast companies are already doing. The regulator has said that, in addition, they’d also need to offer audio description on 10% of content, and signing on 5%, within four years of the rules coming into force. It then softened the news by stating that exemptions may be offered to providers based on affordability, audience benefit, and technical difficulty. Although they also want VoD providers to report on how they meet targets, and what plans they have to ensure accessibility continuously improves.


By now, I would imagine that most (if not all) of you have seen your Roku device(s) software update to Roku OS 9.0 and (with it) witnessed the return of the 'Spotify' app to the built-in channel store that can be accessed via 'Streaming Channels' from the 'Home' screen main menu. From a UK perspective (at least) Roku somewhat jumped the gun with their announcement, published on 31st October 2018, that "Spotify is back on the Roku platform" because the updated 'Spotify' channel requires compatible Roku streaming devices to be running Roku OS 9.0 (though, for Roku TV's, OS 8.2 will do) and that was still a long way from being rolled-out in the United Kingdom when the news was first posted. It was even further removed from the original heads-up, via a 'CNET' news article, which suggested we would see Roku OS 9.0 "...from November onwards", ultimately making what would otherwise have been a nine-month absence from the Roku platform turn into a full year - and that's if you ignore the issues (dating back to the Spring of 2017) which led to the (eventual) removal of 'Spotify' from Roku devices altogether. Anyway, better late than never, the new-look 'Spotify' channel (app) for the Roku platform has finally seen the light of day in the UK... and I'm pleased to say it's better than ever! :-D


Whereas the original 'Spotify' app for Roku devices required users to have a paid 'Premium' account to even have access to their music streaming service on the platform, at least this latest version makes it possible for both 'Premium' and 'Free' members to access their music and now works with their app for mobile devices to initiate playback on Roku with the help of 'Spotify Connect' if need be. Once it has connected to your Roku, and you see the 'Spotify' menu on your television screen, it will then be possible to search for albums and playlists, or browse music recommendations from Spotify, directly on your Roku device. Whether you are a free or paying customer, 'Spotify' lets you discover, manage, and share, over 40-million songs and you can either choose to navigate the channel using your Roku remote, or via Spotify Connect, which can control the app through laptops, tablets or mobile phones.


Should you not yet have 'Spotify' installed on your Roku device(s) it can be added online, through the dedicated webpage on the Roku Web Channel Store, or you can use the built-in 'Search' feature found under 'Streaming Channels' from the 'Home' screen menu to locate it by typing the name of the app. If you add 'Spotify' to your Roku account online, it will only be installed on supported Roku devices but not to any unsupported devices that may (also) be linked to your account. If you are browsing for the 'Spotify' app via the built-in 'Channel Store' on your Roku device, and you can't find it, then chances are that your device does not support it. To determine whether your Roku player supports 'Spotify', you need to know the software version and device model. To find this information, go to the 'Home' screen on your Roku device and select Settings > System > About. The 'Spotify' app is supported on Roku streaming player models 3600 and above. Given how we do not have any Roku TV models in the UK at this time, the minimum software version required for 'Spotify' to function is Roku OS 9.0 and, if your Roku device does not have that, you will not be able to install 'Spotify' without it.


Another useful feature of Roku OS 9.0 that I happened to notice, while digging around the 'Settings' menu, is a built-in speed test under the 'Network' sub-menu which now includes your download speed whenever you check your internet connection. This is something I'm particularly pleased about given how support for the 'Speedtest' private channel, upon which I used to rely for this purpose, was ended earlier this year. So, although this new feature of Roku OS 9.0 is not as fully-featured as 'Speedtest', it does (at least) allow for a basic "on device" speed test to be performed, which is better than nothing!


Still, back to this week... and, as always, my list will help you identify the very latest apps that have been added to Roku devices in the UK. Other websites offering Roku channel listings will base their contents on the Roku USA Channel Store, which means they also include apps that are unavailable to UK Roku users. So, like I've said before... if you really want to know what's available channel-wise, for owners of Roku devices in the UK, you need to be reading this blog each and every week! ;-) :-)

Just thought I'd share details of a special offer on the Roku Streaming Stick+ (Streaming Stick Plus) [Model: 3810EU] which I came across during my regular price-checks from UK Roku Resellers. As of the time of writing, it's only Currys and PC World who have this deal... which is, in so far as I am aware, the lowest price (currently) available for purchasing this item brand new. Unfortunately, it is not available for delivery from either retailer but you can still order it online for collection in store and, if you have a branch nearby, many of their retail outlets will have them in stock and on display.








Unsurprisingly, priced at only £49.99 from Currys and price-matched at £49.99 by PC World stores, the 4K-capable Roku Streaming Stick+ (Streaming Stick Plus) [Model: 3810EU] represents a terrific saving when compared to the original selling price of £79.99 and a further reduction of ten pounds on the previous special offer of £59.99 during the festive period towards the end of last year. While this may not be the absolute lowest price at which this device has been available since it first launched, it is still a superb bargain that's well worth considering for all the additional features (not to mention the thousands of extra streaming apps and services) which are available versus the other 4K options that are out there at the moment - including the bargain basement 'NOW TV' offering which, like all of the NowTV-branded streaming products is restricted to a choice of just forty-five apps (FYI: that is actually five streaming apps less than the first (white) NOW TV Box had when it launched in 2013!).


If you're considering an 'HD-only' streaming device, Roku has that covered for you, too... better yet, it's (currently) available for less than half the cost of their 4K-capable flagship model. According to my research, the best deal on their Roku Express [Model: 3900EU] comes courtesy of Tesco stores... who are asking only £24.00 at Tesco supermarkets nationwide for this entry-level streaming device. For those who don't have access to this retailer, or would prefer to shop elsewhere, it won't cost you too much more from certain other UK Roku retailers... with the Roku Express only £24.99 at Currys, as well as being price-matched at £24.99 through the Very Network and you will even find this model available at the same low price of £24.99 from Media Streaming Market online. Lastly, for just one penny more, you will find the Roku Express [Model: 3900EU] is only £25.00 from UK Asda stores who also have the second lowest offer on the flagship Roku Streaming Stick+ [Model: 3810EU] that is priced at a very reasonable £55.00 from Asda supermarkets nationwide. While this might be five pounds more than Currys are asking right now, it is also five pounds less than many other retailers. This, while not the lowest price, I thought was still worthy of a special mention... especially given how the 'Where To Buy' webpage on the "Official" Roku UK website does not even provide a link to this product on the 'Asda' website and, consequently, many UK shoppers and would-be purchasers of Roku devices in the UK may not even have been aware that this was an option. Then again, since 'Costco' no longer appear to stock Roku products in the UK - returning a "Product Not Found" error message when I tried searching their website - and, likewise, 'Sainsburys' say "Product not available" on the pages of both (current) UK Roku models... it seems that Roku don't appear to be keeping an eye on what their recommended Roku UK retail partners are offering. Luckily for you, I still am! ;-)


Should any other special offers come along, throughout the course of the January Sales for 2019, you can expect similar posts to appear on this blog as and when I find them... so, to avoid missing-out on any UK Roku bargains, be sure to bookmark my blog and visit regularly throughout the month if you wish to keep on top of any Roku UK deals that might be happening. So, much like other recent 'Weekly RoundUp' posts, I must (again) forego my summary of Roku-related news so I can assemble a complete list of those new apps...
